Spain confirm Albert Celades will be their World Cup coach

Albert Celades has been confirmed as the new Spain coach after Julen Lopetegui was sacked earlier on Wednesday.

The Under-21 boss will take charge of the senior side for their game against Portugal on Friday and for the remainder of the tournament, it has been revealed.

Lopetegui was fired this morning, after Spanish Football Federation chief Luis Rubiales was reportedly ‘furious’ having not been told that the 51-year-old was leaving to take charge of Real Madrid next season.

As such, the former Barcelona and Madrid midfielder will be on the bench for La Roja.

Fernando Hierro will be his assistant.
